Greg Giese of Global Energy has worked to produce a new method for rapid prototyping and gas/liquid process equipment. The Modular Block concept is a paradigm shift on how scientists and industry can make standardized modular systems for gas and liquid infrastructure especially in the micro process field.

Originally developed for the deployment and rapid prototyping of the CO2 to ethanol gas-to-liquid process, we quickly saw the potential of the Modular Block concept to revolutionize the science community. You may download a Technology Review of the CO2 to fuels application in .pdf format here ( Technology.pdf ).

The methodology of the Modular Blocks allows science and industry to focus more on the process instead of the structure that the process requires. Blocks are hot-swappable which allows researchers to easily change parameters of projects without major equipment reconfigurations.

New Developments - Turbine and Biodiesel Process Mixing:

New developments include a Modular Fluid Heat shaft which fits within the center element (bore/channel) of the blocks. This allows scientists and industry to stack compression, expansion and mixing bladeless discs on a common shaft in any order, in multiple stages to make turbines, vortex tubes, bladeless pumps, and mixing devices. Because the Modular Block system uses standard fasteners, mass production and unit configuration by robots is possible.
